Where the ocean meets the river lies another beautiful side of the city, Belem.
The protective hills of Belem gave birth to the name of the city in the time of the Phoenicians. In the 12 century Templar knights assist the merchants and sailors, protect the entrance of Lisbon, and on the bank of the Tagus River, they build a the church for the Virgin Mary of Belem.
